Jessica Huyck, ACP

2017-2018

Jessica Huyck, ACP, obtained her degree in Paralegal Studies from Colorado Technical University in 2010, graduating with highest honors. She earned her Certified Paralegal (CP) status from the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) in 2011 and her Advanced Certified Paralegal (ACP) status from NALA in 2013 in the specialty area of commercial bankruptcy.  Jessica worked as a paralegal for a general practice law firm in Brookings following her graduation in 2010 and until the start of 2014, at which time she began her employment with South Dakota State University as a Legal Affairs Specialist in the Office of General Counsel.  Jessica has been a member of SDPA since 2009 and has served on various committees within the organization, including the Education Committee, Public Relations Committee and Website Committee. She successfully completed SDPA's Leadership Academy in 2014-2015 and was voted as SDPA's Member of the Year for 2014-2015. Spending time with her husband and three daughters is Jessica’s favorite thing to do when she’s not at the office. Contact Jessica. 
First Vice President
Jennifer X. Frederick, CP graduated from SDSU in 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. She spent over twelve years with Spears Law Office, PC, during which she earned the “Certified Paralegal” designation from NALA, and assisted with a successful Circuit Court Judge campaign.  In 2015, she worked a short time at the Law Office and Mediation Center of Ronald Frauenshuh, until accepting a position with Schoenbeck Law, PC.  Jen joined SDPA in 2007, and was an inaugural member of SDPA’s 360⁰ Leadership Academy.  Jen was awarded by her peers with the 2011/2012 SDPA Outstanding Member of the Year, and she has remained active in SDPA, currently serving as co-chair on the Newsletter Committee.  Jen is active in various community organizations, but what she enjoys most is spending time with her husband and precious grandson. Contact Jennifer.  
Second Vice President

Vicki Blake, CP works with Drew Duncan and William D. Sims at the Zimmer, Duncan & Cole, LLP law firm in their Sioux Falls office.  She has been with the firm for seven years.  She obtained her NALA paralegal certification in 2007.  Vicki has served in various positions for the SDPA including Membership Chair, Ethics Chair, Nominations Chair, Education Committee and now NALA Liaison.   She organizes the monthly lunch speakers for the Sioux Falls area and has participated in a number of public relations activities including Habitat for Humanity Women Build Day, gift wrapping at the Empire Mall, and the Valentine cookie project.   She is also a member of the Second Circuit Women in Law and the South Dakota Trial Lawyer’s Association.  Her primary areas of practice include criminal law, family law, personal injury, regulatory law and governmental law.  Vicki has worked in the paralegal profession for nearly 30 years at various firms and has mentored many new law firm employees throughout her years.

Secretary

Kristi Wood is a legal assistant at the law firm of Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore, LLP in Rapid City where she has worked for the past 10 years.  She works primarily in the area of insurance defense.  Kristi attended Western Dakota Tech where she earned her associates degree is paralegal studies in 2011.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her husband Erin and spending time with their daughter. NALA Liaison

Melissa Wipf, ACP, is a paralegal at the law firm of Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun, P.C. in Sioux Falls, where she has worked since April 2016.  Prior to that, Melissa worked as a legal secretary at Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith.  Melissa obtained her associate’s degree in paralegal studies in 1996.  She obtained her paralegal certification in 1997 and her advanced certification in discovery in 2011.  Melissa has served as a proofreader on the Newsletter Committee.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys, running, walking the dogs, and summertime outdoor activities.
