Jennifer Frederick, CP


Jennifer X. Frederick, CP graduated from SDSU in 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. She spent over twelve years with Spears Law Office, PC, during which she earned the “Certified Paralegal” designation from NALA, and assisted with a successful Circuit Court Judge campaign.  In 2015, she worked a short time at the Law Office and Mediation Center of Ronald Frauenshuh, until accepting a position with Schoenbeck Law, PC.  Jen joined SDPA in 2007, and was an inaugural member of SDPA’s 360⁰ Leadership Academy.  Jen was awarded by her peers with the 2011/2012 SDPA Outstanding Member of the Year, and she has remained active in SDPA, currently serving as co-chair on the Newsletter Committee.  Jen is active in various community organizations, but what she enjoys most is spending time with her husband and precious grandson. Contact Jennifer.  
First Vice President

Vicki Blake, CP works with Drew Duncan and William D. Sims at the Zimmer, Duncan & Cole, LLP law firm in their Sioux Falls office.  She has been with the firm for seven years.  She obtained her NALA paralegal certification in 2007.  Vicki has served in various positions for the SDPA including Membership Chair, Ethics Chair, Nominations Chair, Education Committee and now NALA Liaison.   She organizes the monthly lunch speakers for the Sioux Falls area and has participated in a number of public relations activities including Habitat for Humanity Women Build Day, gift wrapping at the Empire Mall, and the Valentine cookie project.   She is also a member of the Second Circuit Women in Law and the South Dakota Trial Lawyer’s Association.  Her primary areas of practice include criminal law, family law, personal injury, regulatory law and governmental law.  Vicki has worked in the paralegal profession for nearly 30 years at various firms and has mentored many new law firm employees throughout her years.


Vicki spends her spare time with friends and family including two children and four grandchildren. Contact Vicki.

Second Vice President

Jackie Schad grew up in Rapid City, graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1993 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and from National College in 1995 with a degree in Paralegal Studies.  She spent 12 years in private litigation firms in Rapid City, then spent 9 years as a corporate paralegal at Black Hills Corporation, and she is currently a Contract Manager at Brink Constructors, Inc.  Jackie has been a member of SDPA since 1995.  She obtained her CLA designation in 1997, and has since obtained advanced certification in both trial practice and contracts management.  Most of Jackie’s spare time is spent with her husband trying to keep track of their two teenagers. Victoria (“Vicki”) A. Swenson, CP is a paralegal at Boyce Law Firm, L.L.P. in Sioux Falls, where she has worked since 2009. Vicki works primarily with the Business Section at Boyce, with a majority of her work being with the Trusts & Estates team of the firm. Vicki earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies from National American University in 2007. She has been a member of both the South Dakota Paralegal Association and the National Association of Legal Assistants since 2010.


In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids. When she is not chauffeuring her kids to their activities, she is either running or spending time with friends. Contact Vicki.

NALA Liaison

Courtney L. Vanden Berg, CP is a South Dakota native, raised in Pierre, SD.  She obtained her bachelors of science degree in Paralegal Studies from National American University (NAU) in January 2005. Upon completing her degree she was hired by Alvine & King, LLP where she worked until 2012.  In 2012 she took a position with Sanford Health, followed by a position at Avera Health, before returning to private practice at Johnson, Janklow, Abdallah, Reiter & Parsons, LLP where she has been since 2015.  She current works with attorneys A. Russell Janklow, Andrew Damgaard, and Kimberly Lanham practicing in personal injury, family law, and civil litigation. In January 2016, she earned her Certification from the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA). Her spare time away from the legal world, is spent with her husband, Danny; son, Daryl; and daughter, Emma. As a family they spend many days playing in the summer sun, taking mini adventures to local parks, and always up for a good movie. Contact Courtney.
