2017-2018 Member of the Year

Jessi Stucke, CP
Richardson, Wyly, Wise, Sauck & Hieb, LLP - Aberdeen
Nomination Letter:

I am writing to nominate Jessi Stucke as the South Dakota Paralegal Association Member of the Year for 2017-2018. Jessi hasn't been a member of our organization for very long. I believe she joined SDPA in 2016. In fact, she hasn't been associated with the legal community for that long. She was a graphic designer before joining Richardson Law Firm at the end of 2014. She received her paralegal certification from NALA in 2016.

Jessi joined the Newsletter Committee in 2016, and she took on the position of Chair of the Newsletter Committee in 2017. Since that time, she has taken the newsletter to a new level with her innovative ideas and her flair for graphics. I know Jessi spends a great deal of time not only chairing the committee, but also writing articles, formatting the newsletter and coming up with new ideas for content. I appreciate the time and commitment that Jessi devotes to the newsletter, and I think she deserves recognition for her hard work.

Chris Lillo, ACP
Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith - Sioux Falls

Nomination Letter:

.

I would like to nominate Chris Lillo as SDPA’s 2017 Member of the Year.  She is truly a “go-to” person in our association, has chaired numerous committees, has served on the executive committee, and is an outstanding leader.  If you and the executive committee agree with my nomination, here is my proposal for presenting the award:

Our 2017 SDPA Member of the Year has been a member of the South Dakota

Paralegal Association since 1993.  She is truly a “go-to” person in our

association.  She has chaired numerous committees, including the

membership, ethics, newsletter and professional development committees.

She has served as our parliamentarian and led the newsletter committee in

designing, printing and e-mailing our Reporter.

Our 2017 SDPA Member of the Year is an outstanding leader and has held the

offices of President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Treasurer, NALA Liaison and filled the emergency vacancy as Second Vice President in 2016.  She has co-facilitated SDPA’s Leadership Academy, is a graduate of NALA’s 2011 LEAP Class, is a recipient NALA’s Affiliates Award, and sits on NALA’s Certifying Board.

Chris Lillo earned her CP in 1994, her specialty in Estate Planning & Probate in 1995, her ACP in Business Organizations: Incorporated Entities in 2010, and her ACP in Business Organizations: Non-Corporate Entities in 2017.  She is employed at Woods, Fuller Shultz & Smith, P.C., in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Cindy Schmit, ACP
Peterson Law Office - Sioux Falls
I would like to nominate Cindy Schmit for the SDPA Member of the Year. Cindy is a huge asset
to the South Dakota Paralegal Association. She is chair of the Education Committee, co-ðhair of
the Professional Development Committee and has served on many other Committees since
becoming a member of SDPA. She is always more than willing to jump in and help anyway she
can.
Paralegal Certification is very important to Cindy. This year, in order to help members, she
volunteered to lead a study group for several paralegals who had registered tò take the Cp
Exam. One night a week for several weeks, Cindy would guide the group through the process of
preparing for the exam. These weekly sessions allowed the group to exchange ideas and
concerns regarding the test. The contribution of her time and knowledge helped those members
prepare to further their professional development.
Cindy has done a great job this year and past years and is deserving of the Member of the year.

Michael Bultema
Siegel, Barnett & Schutz, LLP - Aberdeen

Nomination Letter:

I nominate Mike Bultema for SDPA’s Outstanding Member of the Year Award.  Mike was the speaker at the first Sioux Falls luncheon that I ever attended.  For me, as a new SDPA member and rookie paralegal in 1995, President Bultema was the “face” of the association.  Since that time, Mike has been one of the stalwarts of the SDPA, and has remained involved and active in the association.  Also, the visit and dinner that Mike arranged at a Hutterite colony near Aberdeen remains an SDPA highlight.  Even though it's been more than 15 years since Mike served as President, Mike has continued to contribute to SDPA and our profession over the past year through his efforts and time serving as a facilitator of the 360 Degree Leadership Academy.  From the very beginning of this project, Mike has enthusiastically jumped in to help develop and lead the Academy.  He is always willing to share his wisdom and experience with our members, and is committed to developing the future leaders of our association and profession.  I am pleased to nominate Mike as SDPA’s Outstanding Member of the Year.

Nomination Letter:

Cindy is very active in the Sioux Falls paralegal group and has shown excellent leadership qualities in our profession. She is always more than willing to help other paralegals with advice or suggestions. Cindy has worked for a sole practitioner for many years and by her own admission, does everything that she needs to do to keep the office running. She admits that she even does the janitorial work. She epitomizes what paralegals do – whatever it takes to get the job done. She does in court work as well as the day-to-day office work. Cindy has shown leadership qualities in speaking with groups at colleges and is always promoting our organization. On top of all this, she is a friend to everyone in our organization. She makes sure everyone is welcome at our meetings and does her best to include everyone.
